As digital threats continue to evolve at breakneck speed, medium-sized businesses in the Philippines are responding with a noticeable shift in strategy: they’re investing more in cybersecurity, and doing so with urgency. According to recent data, Filipino mid-sized firms now dedicate 13.3% of their revenue to third-party cybersecurity providers a significant increase that reflects a growing awareness of the risks in today’s digital economy.
This shift is both strategic and necessary. With the country’s digital economy expected to hit ₱2.25 trillion this year, accounting for 8.5% of the nation’s GDP, businesses can no longer afford to treat cybersecurity as an afterthought. The threats are real, persistent, and increasingly sophisticated. And while many organizations have laid the groundwork with established cybersecurity policies and tools, the truth is: static defenses are no longer enough.
The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) assessment of local firms provides a telling snapshot. While Philippine businesses scored relatively well in areas like cybersecurity governance (3.95) and threat protection (4.05), their threat identification capabilities lag behind at 3.06. This gap could leave many vulnerable to breaches that evade detection until it’s too late.
Interestingly, the majority of cybersecurity spend is still focused on software (47.09%), followed by network security hardware (38.35%) and data protection (37.86%). These are critical investments, but the key challenge lies in continuous adaptation. Cybersecurity is not just a matter of tools, but of agility updating policies, systems, and response protocols regularly to stay ahead of emerging threats.
As more firms look to Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) for help 61% today, expected to rise to 79% within two years the trend is clear: organizations want expert partners who can evolve with the threat landscape.

This is where providers like Directpath Global Technologies (DGT) can offer value. As an MSSP operating in Canada and the Philippines, DGT delivers tailored solutions like Mobile Threat Defense (MTD), eXtended Detection and Response (XDR), Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT), and SOC2 compliance services.
