The digital battlefield has changed, and the defenses many organizations still rely on are dangerously outdated. This was the stark warning delivered by Gogolook Philippines Country Head Mel Migriño at the Gen AI Summit Philippines 2025. Her message was clear: traditional cybersecurity frameworks are no longer capable of keeping up with the pace and complexity of modern threats.
Speaking to an audience of business leaders and technologists at the Sheraton Hotel in Parañaque City, Migriño spotlighted the expanding role of artificial intelligence in both cyber defense and enterprise transformation. In particular, she pointed to the alarming rise in scams, fraud, disinformation, and the manipulation of digital media especially through deepfakes as key signals that organizations must urgently rethink their cybersecurity strategies.
Today’s threats aren’t just more numerous; they’re smarter. AI-powered attacks can bypass conventional detection methods and adapt in real time. This is precisely why, as Migriño argued, cybersecurity must also evolve. AI is no longer a luxury in the security stack it’s essential. By analyzing network traffic, flagging anomalies, and responding automatically to intrusions, AI-powered systems can act as vigilant digital sentinels that never sleep.

Adding to this urgency is the national security landscape. The Department of Information and Communications Technology recently disclosed blocking over 5.4 million malicious attempts against government agencies. That’s not just a statistic it’s a wake-up call for businesses of all sizes.
The conversation around AI, however, isn’t just about threat detection. As Migriño pointed out, the ethical implications of AI’s rise must also be addressed. The launch of NAISR 2.0 by the Department of Trade and Industry marks a crucial step forward in shaping the country’s AI ecosystem with an emphasis on governance, responsibility, and long-term sustainability.
Cybercriminals are also increasingly exploiting emotional engagement, targeting users through fake content that mirrors pop culture favorites and trusted online experiences. Migriño emphasized that while emotions alone won’t stop cybercrime, they play a pivotal role in raising awareness and building a culture of vigilance.

All of this reinforces a critical truth cybersecurity can’t stand still. It must be proactive, intelligent, and deeply embedded in an organization’s operations. That’s where companies like Directpath Global Technologies (DGT) come in. As a Managed Security Services Provider, we deliver next-generation solutions like Mobile Threat Defense, XDR, SOC2 compliance, VRMaaS, and vCISO support.
